An exciting development in the treatment of depression, anxiety, and trauma is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP). For some people who have tried many other forms of treatment KAP is effective and safe.

Ketamine tends to allow clients that feel stuck to view their problems from a new vantage point. A recent review of the published literature in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry concludes: “Initial results suggest that oral ketamine has significant antidepressant effects with good overall tolerability.”

Here at XY Counseling we collaborate with a doctor to help our clients obtain ketamine “troches” (like a lozenge) which are taken orally during a therapy session. As the client is under the influence of ketamine they may have additional insight in to the nature of their symptoms and ways to shift out of them. The therapist is present – online only for the time being – to support the client during the KAP session. Note that during the pandemic we are only offering video sessions and it is necessary for safety reasons to have someone – a friend or relative – in the home with you while you engage in an online KAP session.

We want all our clients who engage with KAP to have a beneficial experience. To that end, we work within the ethical guidelines outlined by the Ketamine Research Institute (KRIYA) here.
